A week after the attack in Stockholm and the support is still strong. When I visited Sergels torg and Drottninggatan I was surprised to see so many people still showing up to pay their respects to the victims and show their support.
By the crash site, people have gathered candles, letters and the Swedish flag. The flag is seldom seen in Swedish culture and it tends to get a bad rep if used in political situations. So it’s nice to see that it’s been so openly welcomed here. It’s the first time in a long time that Swedes have felt a national connection.
The wall that covers the broken building has been covered in memorial scribbles, letters, notes and messages. People from all over the world write their greetings and so many talk about the memorial held last sunday. The overall theme in the messages is love and peace.
